Franz Sauerstingl has taken over the reigns of the family winery in 2002. As a

graduate of the Viniculture College in Klosterneuburg he currently vinifiers grapes

from some twelve hectars. Grüner Veltliner is by far and away his predomoiniant

variety. A small part of the Veltliner is planted on pebbles, but the largest share is

planted in deep, mineral- rich loess for which the Wagram is famous.

In 2005 Franz Sauerstingl created the series of wines from Loess I to Loess IV. The

name sprang from the fact that loess is ubiquitous in the Wagram and is precisely

that which makes the Veltliner so exciting. The Roman numbers stand for the

increasing levels of complexity and the mounting degree of alcohol in the wines.

Loess I comes from the earliest selection carried out in the vines. I
