Walter Glatzer has been one of the first to believe in the capability of the vineyards of Carnuntum to excel and was therefore essential in developing the style of Carnuntum wines and inspiring other young winemakers in the area. He stands for fruit-driven elegant wines with silky tannins and mild acidity which offer drinking pleasure with substance. While many winemakers used a lot of new oak and sought more concentration in their wines, Glatzer stuck to his credo, “Typical regional character and terroir cannot be expressed in extremely tannic and heavily oaked wines.” Because the region is dominated by the warm Pannonian climate, nearly 70% of the estate’s 50 hectares are planted with red wines, mainly Zweigelt, but also Blaufränkisch and Sankt Laurent.
