The winery is owned and operated by the Spielauer family since the year 1883. The 5th generation Spielauer makes wine today and the 6th generation is currently studying the viticulture. Around 1574, the castle Mollands was built by Count Althan and later inhabited by Count Regas. With an altitude of 330 m the winery Spielauer owns the highest situated vineyard "Hiesberg, Langenlois" from the Kamptal. About 16 ha of vines are cultivated, of which about 70% are white grapes and 30% are red grapes. The location and the local climate favor the cultivation of white grapes like Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Spielauer uses only his own grapes to make the wines.

The estate is about 18 km north of Krems / Wachau and about 80 km west of Vienna.
