ProWein: Austrian Wine’s greatest showcase of 2023

From 19 to 21 March, 229 Austrian winemakers will be presenting more than 3,000 wines at ProWein in Düsseldorf. The most extensive exhibition of Austrian wines in 2023 will also be presenting the first wines of 2022, as well as the outstanding 2021 vintage. Fourteen masterclasses and 6 themed tastings hosted by the Austrian Wine Marketing Board (Austrian Wine) will give enthusiasts an even more in-depth insight into the Austrian wine industry.

More than 3,000 wines hailing from all of Austria's wine-growing regions can be tasted at the most important wine fair in Europe.

“The ProWein in Düsseldorf will be the biggest stage for Austrian wines this year,” confirms Chris Yorke, CEO of Austrian Wine. “Together with 229 Austrian wineries, we will be presenting our outstanding wines to thousands of industry experts in hall 5.” More than 3,000 wines from all of Austria’s wine-growing regions will be available for tasting at Europe’s most important wine fair, which will run from 19 to 21 March. The outstanding vintage of 2021 deserves a special focus, especially since the wines that enjoyed a longer élevage are now available. Austrian winemakers will also be presenting the first releases from the well-balanced 2022 season, as well as older wines, including representatives from the outstanding 2019 vintage.

All wines and wineries available online

For the first time, all Austrian wines will be included in a digital exhibitor list. This will allow international experts to browse all the estates and their wines so that they can better plan their visit to hall 5.

Masterclasses: from Grüner Veltliner to Rosé Sekt Austria

Austrian Wine will be hosting 14 masterclasses (commented wine tastings) with international experts that take a more in-depth look at specific themes. For example, Master of Wine Caro Maurer will be presenting the diversity of the Austrian flagship variety Grüner Veltliner. Marc Almert (ASI Best Sommelier of the World 2019) will be highlighting some outstanding Austrian gems outside the country’s mainstream grape varieties, while Master of Wine Anne Krebiehl will dedicate her masterclass to Rosé Sekt Austria, a sparkling wine with protected designation of origin. The different environmentally friendly approaches to viticulture in Austria will be explained by Sebastian Russold (Best Sommelier of Germany 2021/22) and Sabine Bauer-Wolf from Austrian Wine (click here for the masterclasses).

A comprehensive line-up of side events featuring lesser-known wines

Besides hosting their exhibition stands, Austria will also be running a series of informal side events during the fair. Six themed tastings on the Austrian Wine stand will give visitors the chance to taste their way through the wide spectrum of Austrian wines (click here for the themed tastings). A get-together featuring rare mature wines will be held from 6 to 9 pm in hall 5 on 20 March.
