Stefan Zehetbauer’s vineyards are dominated by schist and limestone soils and enjoy top priority. Interventions in the cellar are reduced to a minimum: No supplements, spontaneous fermentation, long ageing, no fining on most wines. The focus on terroir is a key outcome. Vinifying wines with depth, distinctive minerality and great ageing potential is important for Stefan Zehetbauer.
The Leithaberg varieties Blaufränkisch, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay provide the bigger part of the range. The best growths come from the Ried Steinberg, which counts with its mica-schist soils to the best crus of the region. The family also made themselves a name with their unique Cabernet Franc, which they pioneered in Austria in the late 80s.
