About us

The Schmelz Winery is situated in the small winemaking village Joching/Wachau. The small family winery is currently run by Thomas Schmelz and his wife Bianca, supported by Florian Schmelz (brother of Tom) and Monika and Johann Schmelz (mother and father - the two sons) The eleven vineyard hectares strech a length of 6 kilometers from Wösendorf to Unterloiben. The Wines are influenced by varying microclimatic influences. Vineyard soils differ as well and range from loess to gravel to sandy primary rock, which Riesling adores. Grüner Veltliner makes up about 60 % of the

vineyards area followed by Riesling at 30 %. Sauvignon blanc and Gelber Muskateller round

out the assortment. Schmelz family is awarded with 4 starts from Falstaff and also member of Vinea Wachau since it was founded.
