The Sommer family has been producing wine in Donnerskirchen, on the southeastern slopes of the Leitha mountain range, since 1698. The continental and Pannonian-influenced climate on the Leithaberg, where the warm summers are tempered by cool nights, establishes the basic premise for the Sommer wine culture. Year after year, nature brings multifarious and vastly different conditions and results. The family watches carefully to see what is fitting and appropriate for the vintage and what must be changed. In doing this, the Sommers sometimes break with tradition, test limits, and trust their breadth of knowledge in working with different vineyard sites, soils and vines.
