Kopfensteiner is the name of a wine producing family in Deutsch-Schützen, a village in southern Burgenland (Austria), right at the Hungarian border. Their vineyards, located at the slopes of the Eisenberg mountain, are facing south-east and benefit from the hot and dry climate and the mineral-rich soils of the region, where the Blaufränkischer grapes have been cultivated since the late 18th century. The red wine is full-bodied and aromatic, with a pronounced mineral taste.
The Kopfensteiner family's winemaking tradition ensures that their red wines are characteristically fruity and dark colored. The estate's top wine, the "Border", is a blend (cuvée) of Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, but the main part of the wine production is based on the Blaufränkischer.
