VieVinum survey: international experts give the fair top marks
In collaboration with the market research agency marketmind, Austrian Wine surveyed a representative sample of the many hundreds of international guests that they had invited to Vienna for VieVinum. This year, this figure exceeded a total of 1,200 experts from the hospitality and retail industries and the press from more than 50 countries. VieVinum is the largest fair for Austrian wineries, held every two years in the magnificent Imperial palace in the centre of historic Vienna. 500 Austrian wineries show their latest vintages and some matured treasures to the world’s key opinion leaders.
VieVinum boosted demand for Austrian wines
A third (33%) of those questioned stated that the greatest added value of the trade fair was being able to chat with people from the wineries and industry experts face to face. For 24%, acquiring information about Austrian wines was at the forefront. Overall, 98% of survey participants said that their knowledge had increased thanks to VieVinum (68% “significantly increased”, 30% “somewhat increased”). Four out of five (81%) of those from the retail and hospitality industries confirmed that they are able to sell more Austrian wine as a result. What was particularly pleasing was that more than half (60%) of them want to add at least three new Austrian wines to their portfolios in the future.
Wines from Austria are all the rage – especially in the USA and Canada
Two-thirds of participants confirmed that international demand for Austrian wines is increasing (66% “agree” or “strongly agree”). The highest level of agreement for this came from experts from the USA and Canada (82%), followed by Asia (67%) and Germany (56%). Similarly, respondents from the USA and Canada agreed most frequently with the statement that wines from Austria are all the rage at the moment (65% “agree” or “strongly agree”). They were followed by experts from Germany (55%) and the rest of Europe (54%).
Austrian Wine’s services very highly rated
Austrian Wine ensured visitor satisfaction by providing a diverse programme of side events and a comprehensive package of services, both at the fair and off-site. 81% of survey participants were very satisfied and 15% satisfied with the service and care provided. The “International Heroes & Rising Stars” flight tasting was particularly well received (95% “very satisfied” or “satisfied”), as was the masterclass in collaboration with the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (90% “very satisfied” or ”satisfied”).
Trips to wine-growing regions met with great enthusiasm
Following on directly from VieVinum, Niederösterreich (Lower Austria), Burgenland and Steiermark (Styria) organised wine tours to their regions, each with 25 participants. These trips to the wine-growing regions were quickly booked up and received excellent scores in the survey (all three tours: 100% “very satisfied” or ”satisfied”).
