VieVinum 2014: Vienna Is All About Wine

It's that time again. Every two years, VieVinum – Austria's largest wine fair – is held in the Hofburg Palace in Vienna. And this year, it will take place June 14th - 16th. Not only is VieVinum the most important presentation of Austrian wine at home, but it also has come to prove economic significance in the heart of Europe. Around 520 exhibitors – from more than 400 domestic top winemakers to international wineries and distributors - make the Wiener Hofburg an international wine temple. The Austrian Wine Marketing Board (AWMB) is bringing more than 900 international wine experts to Vienna for this wine spectacle and, with this, is closely focusing on merchants from new, rising markets.

VieVinum is the largest and most important wine event in Austria. It is a perfect meeting place for the wine scene - where the wine elite meets to discuss and exchange ideas on the sector as well as gets to know other colleagues in the field. Up to 14, 500 visitors are expected to attend the fair over its three-day run, June 14th-16th. Not only can they enjoy the fair itself, but they also can participate in a large selection of theme tastings and fair-related events. In addition, to search for and find favourite winemakers, a mobile app - as a vinophile pathfinder - is ready for download. It is available for both iOS and Android devices.

In the Austrian wine industry, VieVinum has developed nationally and especially internation-ally into a renowned prestigious event. For several years now, the AWMB has placed its VieVinum focus clearly on establishing and strengthening international business connections This includes more than 900 merchants, sommeliers, restaurateurs and wine journalists who offer the winemakers a good opportunity to expand their business contacts and gain a foothold in new markets. Above all, the inviting management strongly considers growing markets like Asia along with the key markets of Germany, Switzerland and the USA and established markets such as Scandinavia and Benelux.

“Because more and more winemakers are pushing to export their wines, it is important for us to serve not just a few markets, but also to establish a fine wine niche in the quality segment in many countries around the world,” explains Willi Klinger, General Manager of the AWMB. “VieVium is a central event for our winemakers to grow their international network.”
