 –  The current difficult economic situation is also impacting Austria’s wine exports. Over the last year, the value of exports rose only slightly to €238.2 million (+2.7%). At the same time, the export volume fell (-4.7%), which is explained by a pronounced drop in bulk wine exports. As regards the export markets, Germany stood out positively with an increase in value of 14.8% and in terms of the individual product groups, white wines in bottles saw a rise in export value of 7.3%.  –  Between 10 and 12 March, 200 Austrian winemakers presented 2,500 wines at ProWein in Düsseldorf. Industry specialists from around the world were able to sample the diversity of Austrian wines while enjoying the chance to network with both existing and new contacts. A total of 14 masterclasses and five themed tastings hosted by the Austrian Wine Marketing Board (Austrian Wine) provided an in-depth insight into the Austrian wine industry. Read more

 –  The 2023 vintage certainly put Austrian winemakers through their paces. Dry spells, challenging damp periods and, in some places, severe storms meant that a lot of painstaking work was required in the country’s vineyards. However, all the hard work was rewarded with a glorious autumn. Expressive, dense and well-balanced white wines can be expected, as well as the next brilliant red-wine vintage.  –  2023 was a challenging year for Austrian wine. Inflation and high interest rates slowed down market dynamics both in Austria and abroad. Wine sales came under pressure the world over. The Austrian Wine Marketing Board (Austrian Wine) responded with a sales campaign in the domestic market and boosted export activity – which also eased the domestic situation. Read more
