 –  Austria's winemakers achieve highest-ever average price - Austria's wine sector keeps sailing on its successful course. Even after two low-quantity vintages, an export record of € 126 million (an increase of 2.6% over the previous year) was set in 2011 - against all expectations! Average prices increased significantly because of the considerably low volume (down by 25%). Overall, the Austrian Wine Marketing Board is looking toward a wine export peak of € 200 million.  –  Austria's 2011 vintage finally has the cellars full again. The weather gave us healthy and ripe grapes for the most part – a reward for all the good work and for the challenges over the last few years. The warm Summer this year did present its own challenges in terms of choosing the right leaf management and with the somewhat moderate acidity content; careful vinification was in order. But the high level of education and experience of Austria's oenologists are ensuring the best for this vintage - that fine, fruity wines are being vinified and that drinking pleasure will be had not only with the young wines, but also for those that reach mature levels.  –  The 2011 European Wine Bloggers Conference was held on 14 - 16 October 2011 in Franciacorta, in the Italian wine–region of Lombardy. Franciacorta lies just a few kilometres from Brescia, and is best known for its sparkling wines produced by the traditional method. Yet this year, some 85 Wine-Bloggers from fifteen nations, including Brazil, Argentina and Taiwan, took the opportunity to taste a wide range of outstanding Austrian wines. Read more

 –  Official figures published by Statistics Austria confirm a pleasant surprise. During the first half year of 2011, the value of Austrian wine exports increased, despite difficulties in keeping up with demand following a reduced yield of 40 percent from last year’s vintage. Read more

 –  The Austrian Tasting in Moscow was attended by some 600 wine enthusiasts. This year, the annual wine tasting event was enhanced by the first ever Master Class by the Institute of Masters of Wine to be held in Russia.  –  Three famous Japanese chefs are now studying Austrian cooking with Toni Mörwald at Kloster Und, at Esterhazy´s Restaurant Henrici and at the Kurkonditorei Oberlaa. Also, two leading Japanese wine experts will be studying Austrian wine culture in the wine regions for one year.
