 –  Based on latest estimates released at the end of October by STATISTIK AUSTRIA, this year's grape harvest will be about 15% higher than the annual average of 2.5 million hectolitres. (Lower Austria: 1,702.800 hl(+14), Burgenland: 780.400 hl(+15) Styria: 193.000 hl(+24) and Vienna: 12.602 hl(+10%) Despite rain in September, the quality of the grapes is considered good. And given that October brought finest autumn weather, all in all the 2001 vintage should be excellent. Read more

 –  On 3 October in Osaka and on 5 October in Tokyo the Japanese Meilleur Sommelier du Monde (1995), Shinya Tasaki, invited wine professionals to a tutored tasting giving an overview over Austria's greatest wines. The number of confirmations (300 in Osaka, 200 in Tokyo) spoke eloquently not only of the authority of the illustrious Japanese wine star, but also of the attractiveness of Austria as a country of wine culture.  –  Since it was first held in 1994, ProWein has been the most important wine trade fair world-wide for Austria's wine-growing industry. This year, some 160 winegrowers from all of the country's wine-growing regions (Niederösterreich, Burgenland, Steiermark and Wien) are presenting their wines on an exhibition area that totals more than 1,150 m². Based on the number of participants, "Austria the Wine Country" is the fourth biggest exhibitor behind Germany, Italy and France. Read more
