SALON - AUSTRIAN WINE 1999/2000
Young, aspiring quality producers together with renowned leaders of viticulture are presenting the diversity and quality of the Austrian wine culture. The SALON is presented by the Austrian Wine Marketing in co-operation with CASINOS Austria.
12 SALON-Winners, 12 Chosen, first time Sponsorship
In a large-scale procedure 192 wines, 8 sparkling wines and 10 spirits were selected this year, which are documenting the comprehensive quality claim of the wine country of Austria at the threshold of the third millennium.
Within each category (e.g. Grüner Veltliner, Blaufränkisch, Ice wine-Straw wine etc.) the "best of the "best" were selected in an own final round. Thus 12 SALON-Winners were introduced.
Beyond that, international and Austrian trade journalists as well as sommeliers have supplied nominations for the SALON - Austrian Wine in form of a ranking list. Without consideration to quality grade, variety and designation of origin, the comparison of the rankings resulted in the "hit list" of the 12 Chosen.
Renowned gastronomes, publishers and prominent wine friends have undertaken sponsorship of the 12 SALON-Winners, as well as of the 12 Chosen this year and have introduced two price-winners each to the trade audience on June 30th.
SALON-Tour through the Austrian states:
After the premiere in the Vienna Hofburg, the eagerly awaited SALON - Tour through the Austrian states is commencing in early fall. In the festive surroundings of the casinos, the visitor has the unique tasting opportunity of obtaining a good overview of the actual vintages in a relatively short time.
The SALON - Event Package:
The tasting is always open between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. (entrance until 8 p.m.) Tickets for ATS 380 are available at the cash register of the casinos. This special price includes casino-chips in the value of ATS 300 and the SALON-book (selling price ATS 228).
The SALON-Book 1999/2000
In the past years the SALON-book has become an indispensable part of the event and is greatly appreciated. To the visitor it is providing a comprehensive overview of the selection of wines available for tasting, offering short portraits and addresses of the 200 SALON-Winners as well as compact information about the Austrian wine country.
