VieVinum - Concentrating on Wine

The International Wine Trade Fair Vienna, which will be held from 6 to 8 June, 1998 at the Vienna Hofburg - the Imperial Palace -, will signify the beginning of a new era of specialized Austrian wine events.

The modern concept of marketing top qualities will be of interest not only to wine producers and fine wine merchants, but also to the gastronomy, which is actively involved in selling wine. During VIEVINUM Vienna will host the sommelier world championship for the first time. This may definitely be regarded as an honour of the great achievement of the Austrian gastronomy.

VieVinum will present the wines of about 520 producers in the splendour of the imperial ballrooms at the Vienna Hofburg, which have been booked up in the meantime. Wines simply will be displayed on and tasted at tables. By doing without lavishly designed booths and concentrating on what is essential, the organizer has chosen a way that has been successfully followed internationally already for some years. What adds to the expediency of VIEVINUM is the special atmosphere of the Vienna Hofburg, which is hardly met elsewhere and constitutes the ideal environment for the wine encounters.

Producers from all of Austria's appelations will make up about 75% of the exhibition. The fact that these wine producers recognized very early the great advantages VIEVINUM was offering to them is proof of the new wine fair concept being the right approach. Since the halls and ballrooms available at the Vienna Hofburg are occupied throughout, lodging about 470 exhibition tables, a great number of those interested, also from abroad, had to be denied acceptance for this year.

It is for the first time in years that practically all of Austrias top wineries will be present, this being a unique opportunity for both gastronomers and private people interested in wine to taste great wines and discuss them with the vintners. Due to the vivid interest in Austrian premium wines, which has led to a noticeable increase in demand and the consolidation of Austria's high level image also outside Europe, it has become rather difficult or almost impossible for wine amateurs to get certain wines at home. It is quite understandable that this has raised criticism. For the future, the International Wine Trade Fair Vienna, therefore, wants to give these internationally sought-after top winemakers a chance to look after their domestic customers. In addition, the organizer, M.A.C. Hoffmann & Partner, is expecting interested experts from abroad.
