Ski amadé: carving out culinary highlights

260 ski huts and slopeside restaurants bring epicurean delights to Austria's biggest scene for skiing fun, Ski amadé. This special week dedicated to skiing and the pleasures of wine is celebrating its tenth anniversary this season.

Five regions, 760 kilometres of ski-runs and 270 lifts, plus 260 ski huts and mountainside restaurants with just one ski pass – that’s Ski amadé. The Salzburg Sportwelt, Schladming-Dachstein, Gastein, Hochkönig and the Grossarl Valley set the stage for some of Austria’s finest skiing.

Pleasures for the palate at welcoming lodges

Pleasures for the palate at welcoming lodges

A bounteous culinary offering will soon open up and blossom under the heading TASTE Ski amadé, offering flavourful pleasure to all. Regional specialties, wines from well-known winegrowers and hearty classics are sure to inspire the hearts of hungry sport cannons at the ski huts. Twenty-six of these lodges have already been certified as ‘skiing fun and wine enjoyment huts’, which are designed to meet a particularly high gastronomic standard: a wide range of Austrian wines, including three red and three white wines by the glass, matching delicacies for the wines selected and a properly trained staff instead of self-service. Certified venues can be recognised by the placard featuring the Österreich Wein Genusspartner logo.

Ski and wine week: on the trail of enjoyment...

This week of skiing and wine has been established now for ten years, and from 14–21 March 2020 this season will once again re-emphasize its focus on physical well-being. In addition to numerous wine tastings at the ski huts and valley hotels – for example in Grossarl, Gastein and on the Hochkönig – gondola dinners with top-drawer wine accompaniment invite sporty connoisseurs to experience exquisite pleasure. On the Hochkönig, winegrowers will even pilot their own gondolas: skiers will board the gondola to meet an Austrian winegrower and taste their best wines during the ascent. In addition, during the gourmet week, the highest-elevation farmer's market in the Alps, featuring local farmers and producers, will open its market stands at various lodges throughout all of Ski amadé.

With the enjoyment ski routes, Ski amadé is picking up on a successful concept from last season. On the proposed routes, one will not only get to know the particular ski area, but also its notable culinary highlights. In each of the five regions there are two to four different routes, which are stored as descriptions on the Ski amadé Guide App and on the Ski amadé website. Anyone wishing to follow these trails can easily navigate with the app from hut to hut.

New: Friend Tracker in the Ski amadé Guide App

For the upcoming ski season, Ski amadé has dreamed up a practical new feature for its app: the Friend Tracker. If you download the app to your mobile phone, you can connect digitally with friends who also have the app and then locate them in the ski resort. The only requirements: both people must have agreed to this, and the app must be open at least in the background in order to recognise each other. With this, nothing can really stand in the way of sharing an après-ski glass of some fine wine!
