Second Part of Stamp Series “Austria's Wine Regions” Issued by Österreichische Post AG
The Special Stamps
Every year, the Österreichische Post AG prints and releases new, limited editions of special stamps. The range of subjects extend from historical events and notable anniversaries to politics, sport and art. For the special wine stamp series, the focus is on “Austria's Wine Regions” and their most beautiful aspects, which ultimately serve as eye-catchers in recipients' post boxes.
The Südsteiermark Stamp
The Südsteiermark, also known as Austria's Tuscany, is home to fresh and fruity white wines and a remarkable selection of grape varieties including Welschriesling, aromatic Muskateller, crispy Weißburgunder, racy Sauvignon and noble Morillon. Especially in the Fall, the Sturm – fermenting grape must – and roasted chestnuts enhance the Südsteiermark wine experience in a very charming way.
The motif of the new special stamp features – according to the entire series - a wine glass, which is a typical regional characteristic of the Südsteiermark. The glass is decorated with a vineyard and the symbol of the Südsteiermark, the Klapotetz (a widely visible and audible windmill-like bird scarer), as well as with the grape and the leaf of the Südsteiermark's main grape variety, Sauvignon Blanc.
Availability of the Special Stamp
Since their May 24th date of issue, the special stamps featuring the Südsteiermark, which are printed on sheetlets with decorative frames, are available at all Austrian post offices and through the online shop of the Österreichische Post AG.
The stamps are available in the following packages:

A little preview for next year: the special stamp for 2014 will feature the Wachau wine region.
