No other topic has the world in suspense as much as the coronavirus. In order to protect the health of both exhibitors and attendees, as well as hindering the spread of the coronavirus Sars-Cov-2, several international trade fairs including ProWein in Düsseldorf and Vinexpo Hong Kong have been postponed. Now Austria´s biggest wine fair is affected as well: MAC Hoffmann (fair organizer) recently announced that VieVinum will be postponed until 2021.

Austria´s biggest wine fair traditionally takes place every second year and is already an established event for many international guests and more than 500 Austrian winemakers. VieVinum was scheduled to take place between 6th and 8th of June 2020, but because of the current situation regarding the coronavirus, the decision was made to postpone the fair until 2021. This announcement was made by MAC Hoffmann today (Thursday, March 19th 2020).  Details regarding possible dates for the next VieVinum are being discussed at the moment and will be announced as soon as possible.

The Austrian Wine Marketing Board (AWMB) supports this decision because it clarifies the situation for the Austrian wine business, even though this is a significant blow for the Austrian winemakers. “VieVinum is a very important event for us and a core part of our strategy.  We are pleased though that the situation for 2020 has been clarified. Now we will concentrate on how we can support the sales of our Austrian wineries at home and in our important export markets in this new and challenging environment”, says Chris Yorke, managing director of AWMB.

ProWein 2020
postponed to 2021 | as of 27 March 2020

Due to the negative impact of the coronavirus/COVID-19, the trade fair ProWein 2020 in Düsseldorf will no longer take place this year, and will be postponed until 2021. The precise dates for the next ProWein are Sunday–Tuesday, 21–23 March 2021. The press release sent out by ProWein on the afternoon of 5 March elaborates:

‘... We have come to this decision after engaging in intensive dialogue with our partner associations and key players in the industry. The particular challenge for us lies in that there is only a very narrow time-window possible for holding the wine industry’s trade fairs – which is further constricted by the uncertain situation caused by the coronavirus’, explains Erhard Wienkamp, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH. ‘Viewed with that in mind, this decision is the only appropriate one – entirely in the interests of the wine & spirits industry’, Mr Wienkamp concluded.

Existing contracts between Messe Düsseldorf and exhibitors will remain valid for the alternative date. The same applies to tickets for admission that have already been purchased. In case of questions, visitors can use the following contact email: ticket@messe-duesseldorf.de.
