Breaking News: Bottura to Cook 2019 SALON Gala Dinner
The year 2019 is getting off to a great start with a thrilling message for Austria’s wine community: thanks to the efforts of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board, Massimo Bottura, the culinary wizard of legendary restaurant Osteria Francescana in Modena, has been secured to perform as guest chef for this year’s SALON Gala Dinner. Signore Bottura has been lauded as finest chef in the world, according to the prestigious list The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. On 18 June, Bottura will visit Palais Coburg and prepare an exclusive menu for the guests of honour.
AWMB Managing Director Willi Klinger is quite happy about this, and comments: “Since 2007, the SALON Gala Dinner has shone as the highlight of Austria’s toughest wine competition. The fact that with Massimo Bottura we were able to bring the reigning number one in the world culinary rankings to Vienna will impart a new sense of grandeur to this festive evening for Austria’s best winegrowers.”
Massimo Bottura & Osteria Francescana
Born in Modena in 1962, Massimo Bottura opened the Osteria Francescana in his hometown in 1995. Over the years, proprietor and chef Bottura has consistently added to the sum of his culinary achievements, and earned his third Michelin star in 2011. In 2016, Osteria was named the world’s best restaurant for the first time on the prestigious list The World's 50 Best Restaurants, and repeated this success in 2018.
Bottura is famous for the philosophy behind his cookery, which highlights regional ingredients in inventive fashion, with uncompromising quality. Bottura’s dishes pay respectful homage to Italy’s great culinary tradition, without ever growing stale.
SALON Österreich Wein
For more than three decades, the SALON Österreich Wein has been considered the national championship of Austrian wine culture. Its determinations enjoy the highest degree of credibility and trust among winegrowers, merchants and consumers. Part of this success is based on the multi-stage, independent blind tasting marathon, which selects the best Austrian wines out of thousands of submissions to the SALON. There are sixteen categories, in each of which the top wine emerges as a SALON Sieger (SALON Champion); in addition, trade magazines, wine journalists and sommeliers identify ten wines as SALON Auserwählte (SALON Selects). Through this dual scheme of evaluation, every year the SALON honours up-and-coming talents and iconic Austrian growers alike.
