Austria's top winemakers in Paris

More than 200 wine professionals of leading restaurants and vinotheques tasted wines from 43 Austrian wine estates at a presentation organized by the Austrian Wine Marketing Board together with the Foreign Trade Center of the Austrian Economic Chambers and theÖsterreich Werbung in the banquet rooms of the popular wine bistrot 'Maison de l'Aubrac' near the Champs-Elysées.

The echoes of the throughout professional visitors were enthusiastic. 'A big surprise! I'd never thought that we would arouse so much interest', said Marc Moignoux, one of the leading importers of Austrian wines. 'That was cool! ', enthused the Bavarian wine merchant Karl Steines, who had provided his Parisienne contacts to assist his Austrian winemakers. No wonder, because the list of restaurants represented by their sommelier teams reads like the gastronomic 'Who is Who' of the Seine metropolis: Plaza-Athénée, Meurice, Bristol, George Cinq, Senderens, Crillon, Lasserre, Ledoyen, Taillevent, Astrance, Lancaster, Mandarin Oriental, Royal Monceau Raffles, Shangri La, Tan Dinh, La Truffière, Thoumieux, Benoît, Lyonnais, Café de la Paix, l'Office etc. The leading vinotheques and also the press attended largely. Ursula Plassnik, the Austrian ambassador, brought it to the point, 'The cultural nation Austria is also proud of its culinary culture with our wine at the top and therefore may present with confidence today in the lion's den.
