Austrian wine exports show a slight increase in value

ProWein 2024

From 10 to 12 March, Austrian Wine had its biggest international appearance of the year at ProWein in Düsseldorf. Wineries from all over Austria presented wines from all Austrian regions at the most important wine fair in Europe. Read more

The first Austrian wine to be rated with the highest score of 100 Parker Points by the online wine review of the American magazine The Wine Advocate – seen at erobertparker.com – is from the Wachau wine region. The “1995 Nikolaihof Vinothek Riesling” is the accoladed wine, which was bottled in April 2012 after being aged for 17 years in a large wooden barrel in the Nikolaihof's ancient wine cellar in Mautern, Wachau.

The internationally renowned wine critic and Austria specialist, David Schildknecht, tasted a total of 350 Austrian wines for the current online review of The Wine Advocate. More than 200 wines received an “outstanding” rank of 90 or more points, while nine wines were, with 96 or more points, ranked as “extraordinary”.

Along with his online ratings and accompanying review, Schildknecht has announced that he will be writing an article in which he compares Riesling and Grüner Veltliner from the 2011 vintage, plus another article on the red, white and sweet wines of Burgenland with a special focus on the Blaufränkisch variety.
