Austrian Wine and Russian Art

In the middle of May, the Austrian Wine Marketing Board organized a series of events that took place in the Russian Federation. Just prior to the Annual Austrian Tasting - which is always held in Moscow for the specialist trade - a presentation of Austrian wines was conducted for the first time for top-sommeliers. This presentation took place in the Ural metropolis, Ekaterinburg.

While the Austrian Annual Tasting was once again extremely well attended, the tutored tasting for sommeliers, which was presented by Willi Klinger, the AWMB general manager, and Igor Serdyuk, a popular Russian wine journalist, also was well received. The sommeliers tasted wines rated with more than 90 points in The Wine Advocate, the magazine published by internationally-renowned wine critic Robert Parker, and which are already available on the Russian market.

On the evening before the Annual Austrian Tasting, an art exhibition together with a presentation of Austrian wine – a result of the project “Austrian Wine and Russian Art” – were held in the former Revolution Museum in the Tverskaya Street. The displayed art works had been created by five well-known Russian artists following their stay in Austria´s Wachau region in April 2009. The artists are Ekaterina Popova, Darya Markelova, Sergey Tsigal, Valery Mirnov and Alexandr Alynikov. This new mode of presentation was received with great enthusiasm by the Russian public and especially by the Russian media, including two television stations.
