Austria Remains Focus of the Wine World

All the ships have come in for the Austrian Wine Marketing Board," says Wine Marketing Director Michael Thurner. As already reported, 300 international dealers, gastronomes and journalists travelled through Austria's wine-growing areas and visited the VIEVINUM 2002 in the Imperial Palace in Vienna. In addition to this, the Master of Wine Congress to be held in July, the O.I.V. Congress 2004, will continue to keep Vienna in the international spotlight as a wine city.

International Guests Enthusiastic

The wine journey for invited international guests was a great success. Among the highlights were excursions to Styria, the Burgenland and the Weinviertel, plane trips over the vineyards by the Danube, and a prestigious international blind tasting at the Restaurant Corso, at which the Grüner Veltliner grape was shown once more to have international stature. "Under these conditions, it is only natural that the AWM is looking forward to the VIEVINUM 2004, and the Imperial Palace as a venue plays an important part in the international success of the event," confirmed Michael Thurner.

Masters of Wine Congress Affordable for Wine Freaks

The AWM is facing a great challenge. On July 11 to 13, the International Congress of Masters of Wine will take place in Vienna. Leading wine experts from across the world will discuss "The Changing Face of Wine". As sponsor of the event, the AWM will take advantage of this opportunity to highlight the qualities of Austrian wines. In addition to the Grand Austrian Tasting, guests will be invited to a gala dinner and to an evening entitled "Wine & Music". During a tour especially designed for Masters of Wine by Dr Josef Schuller MW, President of the Wine Academy in Rust, the guests will also have an opportunity of appreciating the beauties of Austria's wine-growing regions. The congress is open to the public. Admission to all three days costs € 750 (excluding VAT).

O.I.V. Congress 2004 in Vienna

In July 2004, the Republic of Austria will invite some of the wine world's most important personalities to a round table for the 28th O.I.V. Congress in the Imperial Palace in Vienna. Problems of production, marketing and administration throughout the world of wine will be discussed and solutions proposed. The congress is accompanied by the 84th general assembly of members of the "Office International de la Vigne et du Vin" (O.I.V.) in Vienna.
