500 Wine Specialists as Guests in Austria - Austrian Wine Marketing Board has invited international wine distributors, journalists and gastronomers to VieVinum

VieVinum is Austria’s most important wine exhibition. Every other year, over 400 native winemakers present their wines during an impressive presentation in the Vienna Hofburg. The Austrian Wine Marketing Board (AWMB) takes care of the international flair and has invited over 500 opinion leaders from the wine distribution market, journalism and gastronomy from 31 nations to Austria. In addition to visiting the exhibition, the AWMB has organized excursions into the Austrian wine country. For Austrian winemakers this is a unique opportunity to introduce one’s products to a community of international specialists.

Planned Excursions

In order to maximize the Austrian wine country experience for international guests, the AWMB has organized individual excursions for journalists and merchants through Lower Austria, Burgenland, Styria and Vienna. Throughout, the focus remained upon introducing the specialty and unique character of each wine region. Seminars, vineyard tours and tastings help the specialists achieve an insight into the Austrian “terroir.”

Enormous Interest from all Sectors

The excitement for Austrian wines seems to have no boundaries worldwide. The AWMB expected guests from 31 nations including 290 representatives of wine distributors, 130 wine journalists and 80 sommeliers and gastronomers. Additional tour groups came from Japan, USA and the Czech Republic.

“In the last decade, Austria has placed itself internationally in the top wine niche. The main reason for this is the high wine quality from native winemakers and the individual assistance given to specialists,” points out Michael Thurner, Managing Director of the AWMB, pleased with the high international interest. “With such exhibitions, we can increase the emotional connection with Austrian wines enormously.” The AWMB and the regional wine market expect to see a continued increase in sales as well as continued success in image within important markets.
