The Donauveltliner is a PIWI (fungus-resistant) variety and originates from the High School and Federal Office of Viticulture and Pomology in Klosterneuburg.

Leaf

Pentagonal, with 3–5 lobes and a flat profile. Neither the main vein on the upper side of the leaf nor the petiole at the base contain anthocyanin; the leaf blade is slightly honeycombed and slightly blistered; the serrations are convex on both sides; the petiolar sinus ranges from open to closed with a V-shaped base; the petiolar sinus is not bordered by veins; no serrations in the petiolar sinus and lateral sinuses; lateral sinuses have a shallow V- to U-shape; underside of leaf shows medium pubescence and the main veins lack bristles.

Grape cluster

Medium-long, loose to medium-dense, main cluster is cylindrical with 1–3 wings, secondary cluster is non-existent or medium-sized; berries round to oval with yellowy green skin and a neutral flavour.

Significance & conditions

Fruity, well-balanced young wines that need to mature before being drunk. Less suited to regions that are too hot and dry as these cause early ripening and loss of acidity. Otherwise very similar to Grüner Veltliner, particularly as a mature wine.

    Blütenmuskateller produces fuller-bodied, more corpulent wines than Gelber Muskateller, and has a strong muscat aroma reminiscent of blossom.
