VieVinum 2024

All eyes were on Vienna! Between 25 and 27 May 2024, 500 Austrian wineries exhibited their products in Vienna’s Hofburg, which welcomed more than 1,200 wine experts from 58 countries, making this year’s VieVinum a record-breaking event. Read more

ProWein 2024

From 10 to 12 March, Austrian Wine had its biggest international appearance of the year at ProWein in Düsseldorf. Wineries from all over Austria presented wines from all Austrian regions at the most important wine fair in Europe. Read more

Glossary

The language of wine contains a wealth of meanings that are not all too familiar, particularly the technical interpretations. The glossary describes and offers an explanation to the most common terms.

vine

Definition:

The vine refers to both the scion, that is above ground (European quality variety), and the rootstock. Only the one year old vine wood can produce grapes. Older vines that give a lower yield, but guarantee a higher quality are particularly favoured.
