Conventional Viticulture

In many cases, the terms 'conventional vine protection' or 'conventional viticulture' are accepted and popular.

This procedure is a comprehensive spraying programme performed at set and regular intervals, with the purpose of the complete obliteration of pests. All legally permitted preparations, that are proven to have a good level of efficiency, are used, regardless of their environmental impact (e.g. by destroying the beneficial pests). Thanks to a considerable reduction in the number of pesticides now available, the detrimental effect is no longer to the same extent as it was some two or three decades ago. New pesticides available on the open market need to fulfil all of the Integrated Production criteria, and previously approved preparations, that do not meet up to the latest standards, are often withdrawn. Therefore, winemakers who continue to practise conventional viticulture, are only using plant protection preparations that have been specifically approved for Integrated Production.
