The Austrian Wine Academy (Weinakademie Österreich) has been a non-profit organisation since it was established in 1991, and is a 50% subsidary company of the AWMB. Meanwhile, the Wine Academy is Europe's largest educational school for wine, and plays a vital role in the high standards of wine knowledge in Austria. Every year, some 900 seminars are held with over 17,000 participants coming from all walks of life (from winemakers to sommeliers, members of the restaurant and hotel trade, wine retailers as well as private enthusiasts). For many years now, the Wine Academy has organised the young sommelier course programme, is active in the Tourism and Gastronomy schools and also hosts the first year of the Master of Wine education programme in Rust.
